Sacraments are celebrations of our faith life. Through signs and symbols, we attune ourselves to God’s presence in a special way; focusing on a particular, way we have experienced God in relationship with others.
First Holy Communion is most often celebrated by children after seven or older when they have reached the age of reason and are capable of participating in the sacramental life of the Catholic Church.
First Holy Communion is to be preceded by the sacraments of baptism and reconciliation. “Children must go to the sacrament of Penance before receiving Holy Communion for the first time” (CCC 1457).
THE FAITH FORMATION CLASSES (CCE) ARE NOT THE SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION, but, rather, is part of the ongoing faith-development and religious education of the youngster. These classes have their own scope and sequence within which all sacraments are presented each year, appropriate to the child's developmental level.
