"Each baptized Catholic has the right and the responsibility to personally choose to complete initiation into the faith life of the Church."
Are you an adult, age 18 or over, have completed high school and wish to receive the sacrament of Confirmation? We invite you to participate in a personal interview so that we can determine your needs and the best way to serve you. We will work with any special situation you may have. You DO NOT have to be confirmed in order to marry in the Catholic Church (though it is preferred). Please do not marry outside of the Church just because you are not confirmed. Let us help you!
Our parish follows Archdiocesan Guidelines in preparing our candidates for Confirmation. For YOUTH confirmation, please consult our Youth department.
The Adult Confirmation candidate may request the sacrament if he/she:
is at least 18 years old and out of high school.
is validly baptized and able to renew baptismal promises. A copy of the baptismal certificate, less than six months old, is required. We will work with you to obtain it.
if married, is in a valid marriage witnessed by a priest or deacon and two other witnesses.
is not living in a way contrary to the moral teachings of the Church.
has received Holy Eucharist (Communion) and attends Mass weekly.
exhibits an active faith life in prayer and loving others.
is willing to commit to participating in prayer, study, and acts of service to prepare for the sacrament.
If any of this is difficult, please tell us and we will help you!
Every candidate needs a sponsor. You may choose your own or we will help you find someone. Sponsors represent in a personal way the witness and support of the parish community.
He or she should be a mature person of faith who believes their faith makes a difference in their lives.
Must be a Catholic who has received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist (Communion) and, if married, the marriage must be recognized by the Catholic Church as valid.
The sponsor may not be the mother or father of the one to be confirmed. It is desirable, but not required, to choose as a sponsor someone who has undertaken the same function in baptism.
Your parish family is blessed and privileged to help prepare you for full initiation into the Catholic Church through the sacrament of Confirmation. Preparation is offered to help lead you to a more intimate union with Christ, and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit, his actions, and his gifts.
When can I get confirmed? The sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated around June. Exactly when you are confirmed and how long it takes depends a lot on you--what brings you to this sacrament at this time, your individual needs, how much time you have to devote to preparation, whether or not you are a practicing Catholic at this time, and other things going on in your life. This is why we want to hear from you before crafting a plan that will work for you.
How do I get started? Preparation for Confirmation for adults is ongoing. The length of time and requirements depends on the person's individual needs and the current activities of the parish. If you would like to begin preparation for this sacrament, please contact: Deacon Stacy Millsap.
